Why cybersecurity must be part of national infrastructure investments
It’s no secret that hacking groups are increasingly targeting state and local infrastructure in their efforts to generate illicit revenue. That’s why state and local officials need to make cybersecurity a top priority as they develop plans to capitalize on new federal funding unleashed by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, says Jim Richberg, public sector field CISO and VP of information security at Fortinet.
In a new CyberScoop interview, Richberg highlights the growing cybersecurity risks threatening the nation’s infrastructure. A big part of the challenge, he says, is the degree to which state and local agencies rely on private sector enterprises to manage and protect the infrastructure the public depends upon.
Richberg discusses the role of cyberthreat intelligence, the increased need for sharing threat information among infrastructure operators and overseers, and steps public and private sector officials should consider as a once-in-a-generation wave of federal infrastructure funding begins flowing to state and local officials.
