The National Infrastructure Advisory Council is calling for drastic changes to increase the resiliency of U.S. water systems.

A presidential advisory council has warned that a catastrophic months-long power outage on top of a cyberattack represents a “profound threat [that] requires a new national focus.”

Rich Baich, chief information security officer at Wells Fargo, will begin an indefinite term on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council next month.

Special communications networks for the most critical industries would guard against a major cyberattack, an advisory panel said.
